Zamp for QuickBooks Online: Setting Up Non-US Rates
While Zamp can calculate sales tax in the United States for you, we can also work alongside default rate configurations within QuickBooks Online.
You will need to visit your QuickBooks Online Sales Tax Center to create rates for additional countries.
Setting up Sales Tax Rates and Agencies
- On the left-hand navigation of QuickBooks Online, select Taxes.
- Select Sales tax from the top menu item.
- Choose, Add/edit tax rates and agencies
- Select New.
- Leave the default Single tax rate if there is only one rate that would apply, or choose Combined tax rate if there are multiple components to that taxable jurisdiction.
- For example, the Retail Council of Canada maintains a list of all tax types and combinations for provinces here.
- For Alberta, which simply has a type of "GST" applicable, you could use a Single tax rate.
- For Saskatchewan, which has multiple types including "PST" and "GST", you would want to use Combined tax rate.
- Optional. Create your Customer record(s), and under Additional info, select the Default tax code as the rate applicable to the sale of your customer's location.
- Any time you create a sale record in QuickBooks Online for this customer, this particular rate will then apply to the sale of the line items.
- If you choose to not set a "Default tax code", you'll have an option to select it during sale record creation.
- Any time you create a sale record in QuickBooks Online for this customer, this particular rate will then apply to the sale of the line items.
- Zamp will not be called for a calculation when a different rate applies to non-US transactions.
