How to make reseller customers tax exempt on Shopify for wholesale orders
If your company sells wholesale orders through Shopify, you can either use Shopify's dedicated wholesale features, or you can designate individual customers as tax-exempt. If you use the latter option, Zamp will automatically classify those sales as wholesale/resale orders, and will treat them as such both in your state sales tax returns and in your nexus tracker.

You can also find these instructions on the Shopify help page.
- From your Shopify admin, go to Customers.
- Find the customer you want to exempt from all taxes, and then click their name.
- Edit the customer's settings by selecting the pencil icon in the top right of the righthand sidebar and selecting Manage tax exemptions:
- Uncheck Collect tax.
- Click Save.
Some states require businesses to acquire and keep on file a customer's reseller or wholesale certificate in order to classify revenue as wholesale. In the event of an audit, you may be asked to produce these certificates for your customers. Please ensure you abide by all state laws regarding wholesale revenue.
