Entity-Based Tax Exemptions

Overview

Entity-based tax exemptions allow you to manage tax-exempt organizations in your WooCommerce store, including non-profits, government entities, and educational institutions.

Understanding Entity Exemptions

Tax exemptions can be applied to:

  • Non-profit organizations
  • Government agencies
  • Educational institutions
  • Religious organizations
  • Resellers with valid certificates

Setting Up Customer Exemptions

  1. Go to WooCommerce → Customers
  2. Select the customer to modify
  3. Locate the "Zamp Entity Exemptions" section
  4. Enter the valid exemption code
  5. Click "Update" to save changes

Important

Exemption codes must be valid and properly formatted. Invalid codes will be rejected during tax calculations. For a reference of supported entity exemptions, see here.

Managing Exempt Customers

Viewing Exemptions

  • Navigate to WooCommerce → Customers
  • Look for the "Tax Exempt" indicator
  • Click customer name to view details

Modifying Exemptions

  1. Open customer profile
  2. Update exemption code
  3. Save changes
  4. Verify status update

Validation Process

Automatic Validation

  • During checkout
  • Order processing
  • Transaction syncs

Error Handling

When validation fails:

  • Standard tax rates apply
  • Error logged in WooCommerce (if Zamp API Logging is enabled)
