Reconciling Gross Sales as a Multi-Channel Seller

Learn about how Zamp handles your transactions sourced from multiple places.

Overview

Zamp is built to scale with your business. As you begin selling on different channels (Ecommerce, Marketplace, Third-party Seller Platforms, etc.), managing your data becomes more complex.

Whether you are reconciling from your ERP platform alone, or on each platform, Zamp may display data differently to meet filing requirements.

Why are my Gross Sales Different?

If you are comparing gross sales in Zamp vs. your platform, you may notice differences. This does not mean Zamp is missing transactions, or has altered the tax collected.

Why Does This Happen?

Every state's sales tax return is different and requires data to be filed differently. In certain cases, Zamp needs to make adjustments to gross sales to ensure your tax collected is reported correctly on a sales tax return.

When is it More Noticeable?

The adjustment differences can be larger when you are a multi-channel seller, where your data flows from different sources into a single platform, like NetSuite. Product Taxability Mappings and Exemptions can differ across your platforms, which can result in gross sale adjustments in Zamp.

For example, certain state returns do not allow for breakdowns of gross sales, despite numerous rates and jurisdictions to account for. To report the tax collected correctly, we may need to adjust the gross-sales figure used on that return.

This is a Filing Adjustment, not a change to the amount of tax you collected from your customers.

How do I Help Reduce Differences?

Align with your Zamp Team

When onboarding onto Zamp, talk through your active sales channels and how data flows into your Accounting or ERP platform. The better Zamp understands your business and how your data looks, the less likely there will be surprises during your first filing month.

Map your Product Tax Codes Consistently

Review Zamp's Tax Codes, and map your applicable codes in the system that is posting transactions to Zamp. This is so we back into gross sales using the most accurate rate data.

Map your Exempt and Marketplace Customers

If your platform is sending exempt and non-taxable transactions without the correct qualifications, Zamp will exclude those gross amounts. To ensure these amounts are included in your returns, classify them appropriately.

Confirm Accurate Tax Collection Enablement in All Platforms

Across your various platforms, if any require the manual enablement of sales tax calculation and collection for states, double-check that your registrations match what is in your Zamp account.
