Succeeding with Zamp's BigCommerce Integration

Before installing Zamp's integration with BigCommerce, read through this guide.

Overview

To allow Zamp to handle all of your sales tax calculation and filing needs, read through the following information ahead of your installation call.

How Zamp Connects with your BigCommerce Store

Zamp's integration is a fully certified application on the BigCommerce marketplace. Zamp only has access to the required scopes, which are necessary for all functions.

  • Orders

  • Products

  • Customers

  • Information and Settings

  • API Tokens

Prior to Enabling

To ensure accurate taxation, and so that transactions successfully flow over to Zamp, you will need to complete the following actions. It is highly recommended you do not enable calculations or transaction posting until these steps are completed.

Mapping Products

With the assistance of your Zamp representative, review the following Tax Codes to ensure your products are mapped correctly.

If this process is not completed, calculations made for your customers may be incorrect.

Mapping is contained with your Products section within your BigCommerce store. Under Advanced Pricing, you will be able to map a Zamp tax code to the Tax Provider Tax Code field.

As a fallback, you can set a Default Product Tax Code within the Zamp Tax app.

Mapping Customer Exemptions

If you sell to tax exempt customers, ensure you take the time to map exemptions to your individual customers or your customer groups.

If this process is not completed, tax exempt customers will be incorrectly charged tax.

If a customer has an individual exemption AND a customer group, the individual exemption will be respected.

Fallback Tax

In the event of an outage or issue with Zamp or the integration itself, fallback tax allows orders to have a basic sales tax rate handle calculations during the outage. You can set:

  • A flat rate of 10% on every order

    • Pros:

      • Set and forget

    • Cons:

      • Overcollection on many jurisdictions

      • Tax on states you do not have nexus in

  • Basic tax settings

    • Pros:

      • Closer to accurate rates

    • Cons:

      • Upfront work to configure

As a reminder, this is a precautionary measure. Zamp's integration is stable, and will handle calculations for 99.9% of your transactions.

Transaction FAQs

Why do my transactions not post to Zamp even when enabled in the app?

  • Under Settings > Tax > Zamp Tax, ensure Please submit my order data is checked.

  • Ensure that One or more countries has United States or Canada (depending on where you are selling.

When do transactions post to Zamp?

  • They post depending on what setting you have set under your Store tax settings. Your Tax document submission setting determines posting behavior.

Why does gross sales for a transaction not match what is in Zamp?

  • Due to differences between BigCommerce's platform requirements and Zamp's, we'll adjust the gross sales amount to ensure the tax calculation amount provided to BigCommerce is accepted. We will always prioritize the tax calculation amount.

How is shipping taxed?

  • Shipping is taxed with its own rules in Zamp. As long as you have your shipping type configured in Settings > Shipping, Zamp will be able to apply shipping logic on it.
