Overview
To allow Zamp to handle all of your sales tax calculation and filing needs, read through the following information ahead of your installation call.
How Zamp Connects with your Xero Organization
Zamp can be installed on one or more of your Xero organizations. Once granted access, Zamp uses Xero's Accounting APIs to fetch and update data within your Xero organization.
Supported Transaction Types
Invoices
Repeating Invoices
Prerequisites
The below are REQUIRED to use Zamp's integration with Xero. Not meeting one or more of the prerequisites will not allow you to use this integration.
General
US-Based, Sales Tax-enabled, Xero Organization.
International Xero organizations are not supported at this time.
Invoicing
Invoices are posted to Zamp when they are created, not when they are paid. They can be edited in Zamp until they are paid, when Xero locks the transaction.
Auto Sales Tax must be DISABLED
Zamp cannot calculate or post transactions to your account if Auto Sales Tax is enabled.
Destination Address
A shipping address on the customer record must be populated on an invoice during creation. A shipping address can match a billing address.
An Item
When invoicing directly in Xero, add items that exist in your inventory to the transaction. Zamp cannot calculate granular taxability (non-general personal property) with only a description.
Transactions with only descriptions will be considered fully taxable.
Item Quantity
If an item needs to be included in calculations and reported, a minimum of 1 is required on an invoice for any given item. Leaving it blank will cause the transactions to fail.
Item Price
Every item needs a price. Only including an Amount per line item will not be enough for Zamp to calculate tax.
Rounded Item Price
Zamp only accepts financially viable amounts. i.e. Dollars and Cents. Prices such as $6.7592 will be rejected.
No Tax Line Item
Zamp cannot read a line item dedicated to tax. Transactions will either need Zamp calculations, or they will need to be excluded using settings within the connector. See Posting Behavior for more information.
Product Taxability
All product taxability mapping is handled in the Zamp Tax Connector. There is no mapping in the product record within Xero.
If you have any special product taxability, you will need to map Zamp Product Tax Codes to each item.
Customer Exemptions and Posting Behavior
All customer exemptions must be mapped in the Zamp Tax Connector. Edits to the Xero customer record will not be updated in Zamp.

Posting Behavior
If an external source is creating invoices in Xero for orders occurring outside of the platform, there are limitations to what Zamp can accept.
If tax is populated using a line item in Xero when a transaction is created, set these customers to No Posting.
Within the Zamp Tax Connector, use the Customer Entity Mapping to set an External Source setting for each customer. Additionally, set a Default Posting Behavior so any new customer will have a setting on creation.
Customer Setting | Calculate Tax | Post to Zamp? |
Standard | Yes | Yes |
Post Only | No | Yes |
No Posting | No | No |
